Pine City JR High School
Physical Education
The Pine City Physical Education Program focuses on the development of fitness for life. Our program contributes to each student’s growth and development in the physical, mental, and social domains through being physically active. Physical Education is an important and unique part of the daily instructional program. It contributes to the development and maintenance of fitness, motor skills, social skills, health and cognitive development. Pine City’s physical education goal is to foster and maintain each student’s best level of health.
Materials- Materials used will be equipment (balls, sticks, exercise videos, etc.) suitable to the activity being taught. Written tests will be given at the end of each unit. Study guides prepared by the instructor will be available approximately one week prior to the test via webpage (student may request hard copy).
Lockers & Locks- Each student will be issued a locker and combination lock. If lock is lost, a new one will be issued at the cost of $5.00.
Make-up work for days absent is required. The student will complete a written assignment. Make up assignment is due two weeks following the date of absence.
Notes & Excuses- In order to be excused from class participation, a note from a parent, school nurse, or doctor must be brought to your teacher at the beginning of your period. Lack of a note means participation points will be a zero for the day. You must have a written medical slip to be excused for more than a week.
*Parents/Students- If you have any questions regarding any of the material or subjects covered in class please contact the teacher to set up a meeting to discuss the curriculum or the use of alternative assignments.
GRADING FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Participation, Behavior, Dress: 50% of Grade- 10pts each day-these points can be made up (optional) by completing a written assignment if the student misses class for a school function or other excused absent. This must be completed within 2 weeks of absence.
** If student does not change for physical education they will be held out of activity for that day, resulting in a loss of 10 daily points. Upon completing an alternative assignment that student will be granted 5 points back for participation (no opportunity to make up dress points).
Skills Observation/ Skills Test: 25% of Grade- ability and effort to master skills being taught. Demonstration of working with others and showing leadership. Scores received during any skills tests.
Written Test: 25% of Grade- Rules, history, class material, etc. (Students are given a study guide for each activity a week prior to test.)
